SAI's knowledge, content, and document management system is called The Alexandrian Authority™ (Alex). Ancient Alexandria, the site of the greatest library of classical antiquity, was a repository for the aggregated knowledge of the known world. The Alexandrian Authority™ provides a method for document storage, retrieval, and commentary in a networked collaboration environment. Alex has seen use by such standards organizations as the X.Org Foundation and the Utility Industry Group (UIG), and by the eighteen statewide offices of the Public Defender Division of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to manage cases and integrate other internal processes.

Alex, based on such non-proprietary standard components as Apache, PostgreSQL, sendmail, and Perl, is an open source- and open standards-compliant solution. Distributed Alex servers run on Linux and all flavors of UNIX and are accessible from any web browser on any platform on any operating system.

Visit the Alexport™ for access to and information about The Alexandrian Authority™. (The site’s logo recalls ancient Alexandria’s famed Pharos, a lighthouse whose beacon could be seen by ships 40 miles distant.)

MAS®, the Media Application Server™, is SAI’s multimedia routing server that moves media data across the Internet virtually in real time, ensuring quality presentation of video, audio, and other time-sensitive information. It scales the gamut of systems: from embedded to massively parallel, from handheld devices to supercomputers, from a microphone source to a speech recognition engine sink. MAS® is predicated on the idea that the timing relationships in multimedia information should not be left to chance, but rather, that timing and synchronization parameters are explicit at all implementation levels. MAS® is a product of a commitment by major industry sectors to support open source products as critical components in their basic technology.
